Hi,
Welcome to the New Year! Can you believe it is already 2024?
Each year I need to sit down and reassess how different parts of my life and my family’s lives are going. Some of the categories I pray and think through are:
School
Chores
Activities
Routines
Time with God
As Kendra, the Lazy Genius, shared in a recent episode, if something is working don’t fix it. So if one of these areas is running smoothly I let it be. If it’s not, I try something new or return to something old. Sometimes nothing goes wrong in one of these categories, but different seasons call for different strategies.
That’s where I’m at right now with my kids’ Bible study time. I want them, especially my teen and pre-teen, to begin developing their own relationship with God. But how!? When?!
That’s where this month’s podcast comes in “How to Make Your Bible Study Habit Stick.”
Since reading the book Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg several years ago, I have taught it to my university students and our Patreon community. As I have been struggling to help my sons this year, I thought, why not walk them through the same steps?
If you’re like us and struggling to find a place in your life for Bible Study because you’ve never tried before or you’ve tried and failed. Listen to this month’s Over A Cup podcast. As I explain in the podcast, this method helps more than any other I’ve tried, even when given my toughest task–cleaning my kitchen!
When you listen you’ll find the second step in the five step process is to make the habit tiny. To help my family and yours, I’m starting a monthly Bible reading plan. One chapter a week, two memory verses a month. That’s all.
I’ll start sending this email on the first Monday of each month so you can read along with us. The podcast will also pivot in February to talk about the chapters we’ve been reading. Never fear! There is no “getting behind” here. This newsletter and the podcast will still be relevant to you, even if you haven’t read the chapters. The same encouragement and practical ideas you’ve come to expect will be present.
Download this month’s Bible Study plan and memory verse printout here. We’re starting with the book of John because it is my favorite, and John gives a very clear picture of who Jesus is. I can’t wait to get started with you!
